JINJA: Notorious robbery suspects arrested with house-breaking tools

JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Jinja City have arrested and detained five suspected criminals with house-breaking tools who have been reportedly terrorizing people in the city and the surrounding areas.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi has identified the suspects as Ndiye Adam, Mudumba Henry, Musinguzi, Birungi Racheal and Naluho Bosco who were arrested on Monday while hiding in the ceiling in school zone, Budhumbuli West in Bugembe, Jinja city.

The suspects were arrested with pliers, knives, scissors, spanners, pangas, iron bars, marijuana, and fake national IDs, among others as police retrieved a series of tools suspected to aid them in committing crimes.

The female suspect reportedly confessed to participating in recent attacks in the Northern Division of Jinja City according to the Regional police spokesperson.

The suspects, most especially Naluho Bosco and others still at large have been terrorizing people of Danida, Masese Walukuba division in Jinja city.

SP Mubi says Naluho in particular was reportedly identified by police CCTV cameras as one of the suspects who attacked and broke into the house of a former Red pepper journalist Tom Kalumula in Bukwale zone, making off with 800,000= and destroying his property.

“Naluho Bosco has been terrorizing people of Danida in Masese Walukuba division in Jinja city and he was identified by our CCTV cameras as one of the suspects who attacked and broke into the house of former Red pepper journalists Tom Kalumula in Bukwale zone, Nakanyonyi in Jinja northern division. They took 800k, mobile phones and smashed the windscreen of his car,” SP Mubi said.

Police say that intelligence officers are working tooth and nail to have credible information leading to the arrest of the remaining notorious suspects, who will face charges with among others aggravated robbery.

The arrest comes just a few days after the region hosted the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime.

However, police have pledged to burst all criminal gangs in the region amidst giving assurance to the people of Bugembe and the surrounding that security is still the ultimate priority by all security organs to have everyone secure.

“We have started bursting one criminal gang after the other and we assure our people in Bugembe and the surrounding that security is being perfected in every corner. We recently hosted the deputy IGP and we engaged in a security discussion to wipe out criminals in the whole region,” Mubi said.

He advised local leaders to support the police by reporting suspected criminals in their areas to the police such that they handle the matters amicably and prevent the community from unlawful behaviours.
