Armed gunmen shoot Nsangi businessman dead, shs 80m stolen

WAKISO, UGANDA: The Police at Nsangi Division in Wakiso District are on a serious hunt for unknown gunmen who shot and killed a businessman and stole shs 80 million from him on Friday night.

Lawrence Lutaseera, 45, a resident of Nakilama cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District was shot at by the armed gunmen at around 10:28 pm according to preliminary reports.

It is alleged that Lutaseera, his wife, Kyazzike Norah Patricia, together with their guard identified as Rashid Ssenyonga, 27, was returning home in his motor vehicle Reg. No UBG 169M when they reached their gate, reached out to their gate man to open for them.

“However, upon entering the compound, two unidentified men on a bodaboda, each armed with a gun, suddenly appeared and opened fire, shooting both Lutaseera and the gateman. The assailants proceeded to rob them of approximately 80 million shillings and their mobile phones,” the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said as he confirmed the incident.

SP Onyango says the victims were quickly rushed to Doctor’s Hospital Seguku for urgent medical attention, “but sadly, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.”

He explained that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the city mortuary for an autopsy.

“The police are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime, and the investigation is underway,” Onyango said as he appealed to members of the public not to move with large sums of money at night as it may attract thugs.
