MBARARA, UGANDA: A 22-year-old Makerere University student, Ms Ayebare Restytuta is the new Miss Tourism-Ankole after emerging winner of the Ankole regional tourism beauty contest over the weekend.
Restytuta, a born of Rubirizi district in western Uganda was crowned at an event held at Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Alongside Ms Kulabako Sharidah and Ainomujuni Hopekins, who emerged first and second runner-up respectively, Restytuta will be this year’s tourism ambassadors for the region.
The duo will head to boot camp later this year with the hope of representing Ankole at the finale and eventually taking home the grand prize and the title of Miss Tourism 2013/2024
The creative wear session showed that the contestants took time to obtain local products like sisal, and bark cloth to make the pieces. Masiela Fashion House designed the dresses made mainly out of African fabric and the judges got a glimpse of the contestants’ evening wear look.
In a related development, Northern Uganda also crowned its Miss Tourism 2023/24 representatives with Acaa Pamela crowned winner of Miss Tourism Northern beauty pageant while Ms Okello Genevieve and Angelo Juliet emerged as the first and second runners up respectively.
Other regions are set to crown their regional beauty queens the coming weekend. The crowned Queens will represent their different regions come 9th September 2023 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

This year’s Miss Tourism Beauty Pageant will run under the theme “Greening Tourism”. At the grand finale, the winner Miss Tourism Uganda will take home different prizes like cash, car, and land title among others.
Later in the year, Miss Tourism 2023/24 gets to represent Uganda in Miss Tourism International which takes place in Malaysia every year.
