Nansana man who burnt himself over married woman to face suicidal charges

Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga confirmed the report

WAKISO, UGANDA: The Police at Nansana Division are holding ta hospital bay a bricklayer on charges of a suicidal attempt by burning after setting himself on fire when a married woman rejected his love advances.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, preliminary facts gathered indicate that Kasirye Faizo, 26, a resident of Kazinga-Nsumbi has been stalking one Namakula Nally Deborah, a mother of three for several years with the full knowledge that she is a marked woman to Ssenabulya Michael.

It is further alleged that on July 23, 2023, at around 11 pm, Kasirye’s advances were again rejected by the victim, who was in the company of her two friends, at a meeting point bar, Kamukamu for a music show.
After the show, the woman victim took a boda boda at around 2 am and returned to her home.

“Surprisingly the following day on Monday, July, 24, residents found when Kasirye Fazio had poured paraffin and set himself on fire. He wanted to kill himself because Namakula Nally, a married woman had rejected his love. The whole body got burnt and the body skin fully peeled off,” SCP Fred Enanga said in a police statement.

He added that the male victim was rescued by officers from Kyebando Police Station and rushed to Mulago Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment and will be arraigned in court as soon as he is discharged.

“We totally discourage such acts where persons commit or attempt to commit suicide, over a love rejection or recent breakup. Emotions can be tough to take when you are feeling lonely. It’s better to recognise that one’s life is precious and more worthwhile than any relationship. You can, therefore, help yourself by taking control of your emotions and finding ways to heal,” Mr Enanga advised.
