Man, 21, swallows sim card to hide evidence from police

KAMPALA, (UG): Detectives at Kalerwe Police Station in Kawempe division were on Wednesday treated to unpaid drama after a suspect attempted to swallow a sim card during a police operation against criminality in the area.

Ivan Okello, a 21-year-old security guard attached to Tiger Security Group and his colleagues were in the wee hours of Wednesday morning found participating in gambling activities during the police raid.

However, as officers assembled them for sorting, Okello quickly removed SIM cards from his mobile phone and swallowed one of the cards in an attempt to conceal potential evidence.

This was confirmed by Kalerwe Police Boss, ASP Rogers Musana who revealed that the officers were able to successfully recover the other SIM card from Okello’s mouth.

According to ASP Musana, a faction of young individuals has recently been causing distress among Kalerwe’s residents, perpetrating crimes such as residential break-ins and street robberies involving the theft of valuables, including smartphones, bags, and laptops.

He said the retrieved SIM card will be key in the police investigations, adding that such operations are orchestrated to ensure the apprehension of the suspects involved in these criminal activities.
