Several injured as bus overturns along Kampala-Mbarara Highway

Lwengo, (UG): At least one person sustained critical injuries and several others were left with minor injuries after a bus belonging to Global Coaches overturned along Kampala-Mbarara highway on Monday morning.

The 11 am accident involving the Global bus of registration number UBB 985M occurred at a place called Kyekurura, shortly after Kinoni center in Lwengo District, part of Greater Masaka, police said in a statement.

According to SP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, “It is alleged that the bus driver lost control due to the slippery road following the heavy morning downpour leading to the motor vehicle overturning several turns.

He said one person sustained serious injuries in the accident while other injured individuals were transported to nearby health centers for further medical attention.

“One person sustained serious injuries in the accident. Local authorities and bystanders swiftly responded, transporting the injured individuals to nearby health centers,” SP Kasirye said.

He added that police would provide more details regarding the accident in due course, and cautioned drivers to avoid overspeeding on slippery roads especially during this rainy season to avoid such accidents.

“We caution all drivers particularly on slippery roads during this rainy season to avoid speeding to prevent such accidents,” Kasirye advised.
