Kampala, (UG): President Yoweri Museveni will on Thursday, September 07, at 8 pm address the nation on security matters and issues of national importance, the office of the Presidency has confirmed.
“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) wishes to inform the General public that the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Gen. (Rtd). Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will at 8 pm tomorrow, Thursday, September 07, 2023, address the Nation on Security Matters and other issues of National Importance,” a brief press statement from the PPU read on Wednesday afternoon.
Just like other presidential addresses, Thursday’s address will be aired live on all TV and Radio stations.
Museveni’s address to the nation comes at a time when Uganda is grappling with rising terror threats which has seen the Counter Terrorism Unit of Police and Join Security Forces recover up to six Improvised Electronic Devices within the areas of Kampala and Wakiso District.
While addressing journalists on Monday, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said on the 03rd September, 2023, at around 11 am, the Joint Security taskforce deployed at Miracle Centre and successfully intercepted a terrorist who had disguised as a churchgoer and recovered an IED, at the main entrance of the Church, in Kayanja Triangle Zone, Lubaga Parish in Kampala District.
Enanga said the suspect; Kintu Abdulahuman a 28-year-old resident of Mbizinya village, Buwama sub-county in Mpigi district, was also found in possession of a remote control bomb and was found to be on the wanted list of the CMI.
He added that a total number of six suspects so far arrested are now linked to the ADF rebel camp, which claimed responsibility for the June 16 attack on a school in Kasese where more than 40 people lost their lives.
