LUWEERO: Unruly wife kills UPDF soldier in domestic fight

Luweero, (UG): Police in Luweero District have opened up a murder inquiry to investigate how Sgt Cosmas Oryema, a UPDF soldier was killed in a suspected domestic fight involving his wife after developing a misunderstanding on Friday morning.

The incident happened at the soldier’s home in Kizito Zone in Luweero Town Council, in Luwero District in the Central Region of Uganda.

According to the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson Mr Sam Twineamazima, Sgt Oryema was attached to Makenke Barracks in Mbarara City and had visited his wife at their new home in Kizito before the unfortunate incident that took his life happened.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two have been to long-standing misunderstandings, details of which police was not able to provide by press time due to ongoing investigations.

Neighbours who spoke to the press on Friday claimed that the wife had been fighting with the husband for some time on matters that they could not understand but related to the family property at Kizito zone.

“It is alleged that the deceased has had a misunderstanding with his wife for a long period of time. He bought land and a house at Kizito Zone in Luweero Town Council where the family has been staying. He has reportedly been fighting with his wife who is now the suspect and is on the run,” Mr Twineamazima said on Friday afternoon.

He added that scene of crime officers (SOCO) visited the scene and recovered sharp objects including broken glasses and plates and the lifeless body of the soldier, which was later taken for further autopsy at Luweero Hospital.

It is suspected the wife disappeared with the children after the incident and is currently on the run as a serious for her gets underway.
