Kampala, (UG): The Police in Kampala have arrested two suspects on allegations of breaking into a money lending company office and stealing four million shilling in cash plus 104 national identity cards used as collateral security for borrowers.
The Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango identified the suspects as Kwikiriza Evans, 22, a born of Ntugamo district and loans officer at T.M.K Loans Service in Kanaaba, and Rubogo Sam, a former worker at the same company.
According to Mr Onyango, “It is alleged that on September 3, 2023, at around 7:30 pm, Kwikiriza, who was a loans officer at T.M.K Loans Service in Kanaaba-Ndejje Busabala road, broke into the company office and stole the identity cards and money.”
Preliminary investigations indicate that the theft was planned by Kwikiriza and Rubogo who had been working together at the company for several months and had knowledge of the security measures in place.
Onyango says the suspects were arrested after a tip-off from a member of the public.
“The flying squad of the Kampala Metropolitan Police East tracked down the suspects to Kanungu-Kihihi, where they were arrested with the exhibits in their travel bag,” the Kampala police spokesperson said in a Friday statement.
“The two suspects are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station, where they are being held on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a crime,” he added.
Police therefore appealed to anyone who may have information about the theft to come forward as investigations into the case continue.
