Kampala, (UG): Uganda’s Football governing body, FUFA Thursday announced that Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Uganda Cranes after both parties agreed to part ways by mutual consent.
Micho’s departure came in the aftermath of Uganda Crane’s failure to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup Nations finishing third in the qualification group stage behind Algeria and Tanzania who sealed their spots for the continental tourney due next January in Ivory Coast.
“FUFA and Mr Milutin Sredojevic agreed to mutually end the existing employment contract between the two parties. FUFA appreciates all efforts and commitment by Mr Milutin during his period as Head coach of Uganda Cranes,” FUFA said in a statement on Thursday evening.
In an additional note, FUFA said it “appreciates all efforts and commitment by Mr. Milutin during his period as head coach of Uganda Cranes.”
The statement which was six-lines-long, inclusive of title and the federation motto, effectively ended his reign at a time when he has been unpopular with the wider football public.
Micho who previously coached the Cranes until 2017 returned to the East African nation in 2021 for a second stint signing a three-year contract after Jonathan McKinstry’s departure.
Micho is remembered for having guided Uganda to the AFCON 2016 finals, the first-ever Afcon tournament after a period of 38 years.
