Kampala, (UG): Government-owned Printing Agency, UPPC (Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation) has embarked on a strategy to regulate the printing business at Nasser Road in Kampala, and throughout Uganda with an aim of revolutionising the lacklustre publishing and printing in the country.
The plan was yesterday revealed by UPPC Board Chairman, Mr Joachim Buwembo as the Corporation launched its five-year strategic plan (2023-2028) at Esella Hotel in Najjera, Kampala.
Mr Buwembo who was responding to questions from the media attributed the substandard printing and publishing services on Nasser Road to inadequate training for those employed in these print shops and unprofessional money-minded individuals who have resorted to
When asked how the policy will be implemented, the Corporation chairman said that in collaboration with the stakeholders in the printing business, UPPC will orchestrate numerous training sessions and seminars, both domestically and abroad, at a nominal expense, to professionalise the personnel on Nasser Road, ensuring the delivery of standardised services.
“The individuals on Nasser Road stepped in to fill a void, arising from the absence of formal training. They are essentially learning on the job. UPPC’s role is to connect you, the client visiting Nasser Road, with a skilled professional,” Mr Buwembo noted.
“So automatically once the training services approach and brought near to them at a relatively low fee, they will come and study, you the client will just be pulled to a better service provider,” he added.
Nasser Road, a bustling thoroughfare in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, is renowned for its budget-friendly printing services. However, it has long been mired in notoriety for subpar quality and the production of counterfeit documents.
It remains to be seen how and when the regulation from UPPC will be effected with no timeline provided yesterday by the Board Chairman.
