Woman arrested for sedating guards to rob millions from Sacco

Bugweri, (UG): The Territorial Police in Busoga East Region and Bugweri CPS are holding a 21-year-old female arrested on charges related to conspiracy to robbery after she served two private guards of a Savings Cooperative with sedated drinks with intent to steal from the financial institution.

The suspect identified as Namuli Halima, a resident of nankoma “B” zone in Bugiri zone is said to have lured the guards at Bugadde SACCO Idudi Branch with intoxicated Mirinda fruit soda in an incident that happened on Thursday, September, 14, 2023.

The two guards identified as Okalt Samuel and Okwaja Alex, reportedly fell unconscious and slept off after taking the drink, allowing the woman to steal from the Sacco, an unspecified amount of money.

“After the robbery of the SACCO, the suspect escaped to her home village, in Mayuge. She was tracked down and arrested from Luba village, Lwanika sub-county in Mayuge district and transferred to Bugweri CPS,” said Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga.

Mr Enanga further noted that the soda that was laced with intoxicating substances was recovered by scene of crime detectives and submitted to the GAL for further Forensic analysis.

In a separate development, two more private security guards, were sedated with chloroform, while guarding a Pepsi depot at Kamuli Town Council in Gomba district on Monday, September 11, 2023.

In the incident, the guards after becoming unconscious were locked in two trucks by the perpetrators who stole a safe containing Ugx 17m.

“The safe was abandoned at Wasinda village, located 2kms from the depot, without the cash. A riffle that belonged to the Private security guards, was abandoned next to depot building,” Enanga explained.
