Kampala, (UG): MK Movement, a pressure group led by First Son and the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has called for the arrest of what he described as “thugs” using the MK name on motor vehicle number plates to rob unsuspecting Ugandans.

In a post via X (formerly Twitter), MK Movement Spokesperson, Mr Andrew Mwenda urged the police to swing into action and arrest the individuals found culpable of using motor vehicles with the initials “MK Movement” unless they are officially registered.

“Many thugs are using the name of the MK Movement to rob, intimidate and grab property from ordinary citizens. This is to inform everyone that the MK Movement does not approve of anyone exercising impunity. Police are hereby requested to apprehend such people upon sight. Anyone using a car numberplate with the initials MK Movement or MK army, unless officially registered, should be arrested,” Mr Mwenda posted.

“Anyone using even a registered number plate with MK initials but gets involved in criminal activity should be apprehended by police and thrown in jail,” he added.

According to Mwenda, Gen Muhoozi in person and the entire MK Movement do not condone such acts of criminality as they go against the principles, values and ethics of the pressure group.

He therefore reiterated the call to have all pretenders using the name of the movement to commit crimes, arrested by police.

“Those wearing MK Movement T-shirts and other paraphernalia should exhibit the best values of the movement: humility, integrity, moral uprightness, honesty, patriotism, pan Africanism etc. Crooks, fraudsters, criminals, liars, cheats etc. do not represent the movement,” Mwenda said.

In May this year, President Museveni commended Gen Muhoozi and his supporters under the MK Movement for their efforts to bring about cohesion in the country and urged them to pursue patriotism, Pan-Africanism and democracy in the socio-economic transformation of Uganda and Africa.

The President, however, warned the First Son about opportunists embedded in the MK Movement saying these if not dealt with, would tarnish his name and that of the First Family.
