Inside the sh3.8b budget by Nebbi Diocese to organize 2024 Martyr’s Day Celebrations

Nebbi, (UG): The Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Raphael Wokorach has urged the faithful people of goodwill in Uganda and elsewhere to voluntarily and willingly support the diocese as they aim to raise 3,807,618,000 billion shillings for the preparation of the 2024 National Martyrs’ Day Celebration at Namugongo Shrine in Kampala.

The diocese which falls under the Gulu Ecclesiastical Province in 2007 led the liturgical celebrations under the Stewardship of Late Bishop Martine Luluga and was this year granted the fervent honour to the mighty pulpit of the Martyrs shrine for the upcoming 2024 celebrations.

In Nebbi, hundreds of pilgrims and Christian faithfuls are currently in jovial moods, eagerly charged for the dawn of the 3rd, June 2024 to unveil their Diocese before thousands of thousands who will throng the shrine from across the globe to remember the slain martyrs.

Fresh, undisputed, and thrilling memories of the 2007 magnificent liturgy are displayed in the hymns, dances, instruments and unique chronological body gestures of praises.

DailyExpress made an exclusive insight view of the sh3.8 billion budget meant to facilitate the 2024 Martyrs Day Celebration with lion shares of the budget channelled to building the Uganda Martyrs Souvenir (2.5 billion shillings).

In other allotments, construction and sanitation, choir, finance mobilization, Publicity and communication at over 100 million shillings respectively.

This publication has learnt that Nebbi diocese’s budget is more than 1.5 billion superior to the 2.2 billion shillings of its immediate predecessor Jinja Catholic Diocese and striving to over-ride above and beyond the performance of the camp of Bishop Wamika of Jinja Diocese.

The justification of the budget according to an official at the diocese who preferred not to be disclosed in the story is the plan to construct a souvenir in memory of the 2024 Martyrs Day Celebration.

This publication also discovered that the 22 parishes and sub-parishes have been clustered into three categories of 15 million,13 million and 10 million shillings, depending on numerical strength and financial abilities.

However, the finances that will be generated by the parishes are paltry, hence the need for strategic finance mobilization from diocesan benefactors and the government.

About 129 million shillings will be channelled to mobilize and manage the 3.8 billion shillings budget.
