FULL LIST: Museveni promotes, confirms 50 UPDF officers to new ranks

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the armed forces has promoted a total of 50 UPDF officers and confirmed new ranks of Senior and Junior officers in the national army.

The latest promotions were confirmed by UPDF spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye in a press statement dated Wednesday, October 04, 2023.

“His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces has promoted and confirmed Acting ranks of senior and junior officers of the UPDF” read the statement from the UPDF Spokesperson.

According to Kulayigye’s statement, five colonels including Jimmy N. Musoke, John Patrick Otongo, James Muhwezi, Richard Rubongoya and Wycliff Ruterana Keita have been promoted to the rank of brigadier to ensure they are now one-star generals.

The promotions also saw 17 lieutenant colonels promoted to the rank of colonel whereas six acting lieutenant colonels have been confirmed as lieutenant colonels.

Additionally, nine majors were promoted to the next rank of lieutenant colonel, three acting majors were confirmed as majors, two captains were elevated to major, and one acting captain confirmed as captain whereas seven-second lieutenants are now lieutenants in the UPDF.

“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF fraternity congratulate the Senior and Junior Officers upon their well-deserved promotions and confirmed ranks,” said army spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, while announcing the promotions on Wednesday morning.
