Paidha solar panels vandalized by unidentified thugs

Zombo, (UG): Police in Paidha Town Council in Zombo District, West Nile sub-region are investigating circumstances under which two solar panels of 150 watts were reportedly vandalised by unidentified thugs after they were installed a few months ago.

The case which has been registered under Reference no SD REF 35/06/10/2023 is now a subject of investigation with litigation measures underway to pursue the perpetrators who are currently at large.

The vandalized street lights had been installed at Kwete Club and Offaka Road in Paidha Town Council in Zombo District, DailyExpress understands.

This publication has further learnt that the vandalized systems are estimated to have cost the town council a sum of 3.8 million shillings tapped from the local revenue fund.

Speaking to DailyExpress on Friday evening, Mr Innocent Onega, the LC3 Chairperson and Security Committee Head of Paidha Town Council, efforts are actively underway to recover the vandalized street lights solar panels. He therefore urged the public with helpful information to open to authorities in order to aid in the recovery of the items.

“I want to ask the public to give us information which information will be treated as confidential, with a reward of 250,000 Ugshs to anyone who will lead us to recover this panel,” Onega urged community members.

Paidha Town Council had installed 12 street lights at various points to help lighten up the town, extend the time for business transactions within the town and at most provide security to the business community.

DailyExpress has also learnt that the Town Council plans to install more street lights worth 78 million shillings to execute the plan in the 2023/24 financial year in order to beautify the town and provide convincing to the business community.

By press time on Saturday morning, Police were yet to issue an update on the matter.
