University League: Kyambogo, Ndejje share spoils in thrilling encounter

The match between Kyambogo University and Ndejje University in the University Football League (UFL) ended in a pulsating 1-1 draw, showcasing both teams’ determination and resilience at the Arena of Visions.

The encounter was filled with moments of excitement and missed opportunities, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

The game kicked off with both teams looking to make an early impact.

Kyambogo immediately showed their attacking intent, with Hudson Mbaliire’s powerful shot from 18 yards out testing Ndejje University’s goalkeeper, Emmanuel Mayega. 

However, Mayega managed to make a crucial save, denying Kyambogo the opening goal.

In the 12th minute, Ndejje University took the lead through a goal from Reagan Ssebagala. Yet again, Kyambogo suffered a lapse in goalkeeping as Odong Charles’s mistake gifted Ndejje the advantage, leaving the home crowd stunned and silenced.

Despite falling behind, Kyambogo University continued to press forward and create scoring opportunities. 

Brian Mbonimpa and Opio both came close to equalizing, but their efforts were narrowly off target.

As the first half progressed, Kyambogo increased their pressure on Ndejje. Hudson Mbaliire unleashed a strike from a distance, but it sailed wide of the target, leaving the hosts frustrated.

In the second half, Kyambogo University continued to search for an equalizer, but Ndejje’s defence stood firm. The away side occasionally threatened on the counterattack, but the score remained unchanged.

In the 80th minute, a golden opportunity arose for Kyambogo University to level the score. 

Hudson Mbaliire found himself in a promising position but failed to convert, much to the dismay of his teammates and the home supporters.

As the clock ticked towards full-time, Kyambogo University’s persistence paid off. In the 95th minute, they were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box. 

Hudson Mbaliire stepped up and coolly converted from the spot, sending the home crowd into rapturous celebration.

The final whistle blew, concluding an exhilarating match that ended in a deserved 1-1 draw.

Both teams demonstrated their fighting spirit and showcased their attacking prowess throughout the game. Kyambogo University will take heart from their late equalizer, while Ndejje University will rue missed opportunities to secure all three points.

While Kyambogo are second in Group C with four points, Ndejje are third with two points, whilst Makerere (six) and Muni (one) are top and bottom, respectively
