Zombo activists to stage peaceful demonstration over poor road network

Zombo, (UG): Security experts in Zombo District have tasked organisers of the planned peaceful demonstrations on the deplorable status of roads in the district to seek permission from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

This was resolved during a crisis meeting held on Friday, October 20th. DailyExpress has learnt that it’s in abide to safeguard the general Public from interferences that might be caused by the charged demonstrators.

This publication also understood that the peaceful demonstration is scheduled for Wednesday 25th October, under the tagline “Zombo roads matter, it’s time for action not words” with the mobilization being conducted across the 15 local government administrative units in the district. 

According to the organisers of the peaceful demonstration,this initiative is the only ray of hope to salvage and inform government about the plight of people loosing lives in road accidents ,high cost of transportation and inaccessibility of some areas. 

The demonstration is purposely meant to drag government to account for the repeated eloquent unfulfilled pledges and promises of shaping the stretch of roads tagged under mandate of Uganda National Road Authority and the District after the 37 years of promise after promises.

Mobilizers are earnestly vowing to execute the peaceful demonstration with or without clearance of the IGP ,if the District Police Commander objects to grant leeway .

 Mr. Anwangkane Fred, a mobilizer for peaceful demonstration from Abanga sub county noted that IGP has representative in the district,” this DPC represents IGP at the district level,we are going to move on with our demonstration,” Anwankane remarked .

According to him, the Minister of Works and Transport should willfully schedule an ad hoc meeting to address the demand of the people and report on the progress of the September 2022 road survey.

Mr. Francis Bolingo, a district councilor and member of social services committee expressed his dissatisfaction saying,”…the minister came to the district,now for 37 years we see nothing happening,the pressure group will continue with the demonstration.”

During a government hour talkshow on a media house in Zombo district, Rtd. Col. Pius Alitema RDC of Zombo, rallied the organisers of the peaceful demonstration to be disciplined  in the course of the demonstration in order to minimize possible interference with other  activities of the general public.

The demonstrators from across the 15 lower local government administrative units in the district will march and crowd for a grand address on status of roads and it’s impact at Zombo district headquarters.
