Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers SC yesterday (Friday) returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over struggling Bright Stars on match-day five at Kavumba Grounds.

Karim Watambala and Bright Anukani scored the goals of the night in the second half, securing a well-deserved victory for the Venoms.

The first half saw fewer noteworthy events, with Watambala coming close with a free-kick that hit the post after a save attempt by Bright Stars’ goalkeeper, Derrick Were.

However, Watambala broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half, with his shot taking a slight deflection off Bright Stars’ captain, Andy Kyambadde.

Vipers quickly extended their lead four minutes later, as Bright Anukani chested in a delivery from Lumala Abdu after a beautifully executed build-up play.

Despite having a chance for a third goal, Vipers failed to add another goal to their tally.

This victory follows two consecutive draws against Mbarara City and SC Villa, marking a return to form for the Venoms who now move to 11 points.

The win is significant for the Vipers, as they lost four points to Bright Stars in the previous season, including a 1-0 defeat at this venue due to Emmanuel Loki’s goal.

On the other hand, Bright Stars will visit Mbarara City on October 31 at Kakyeka, while Vipers will welcome Wakiso Giants at Kitende on the same day.

Meanwhile, in another match played on Friday afternoon, Maroons FC and URA FC battled to a 1-1 draw at Luzira Prisons Ground. Substitute Emmanuel Okech found the back of the net in the 86th minute, opening his goal account for the 2023/24 UPL campaign and breaking the deadlock.

However, in-form Dariuos Ojok scored a 94th-minute equalizer for the Prison Warders, denying URA maximum points at Luzira.
