UFL: Kyambogo suspended for two seasons over fans hooliganism

Kampala, (UG): The University Football League (UFL) Disciplinary Committee has taken a resolute stance against Kyambogo University with a two-season suspension for their inability to rein in unruly supporters during crucial encounters.

“The UFL Disciplinary Committee has suspended Kyambogo University over incidences of fans hooliganism during their matches,” a statement posted via the University Football League account on X read on Monday.

“Kyambogo University has been suspended for two seasons, this 2023-24 and the next season.” The statement adds.

The UFL Disciplinary Committee’s decision comes in the wake of two distressing incidents involving Kyambogo University.

On the 14th of October 2023, during the match against Ndejje University, the atmosphere turned hostile as disorderly conduct from Kyambogo’s fans escalated to an unprecedented level.

Similarly, on the 5th of October 2023, the game against Muni University witnessed a repeat of this lamentable behaviour.

Following a thorough investigation, the UFL Disciplinary Committee unequivocally found the 2018 Champions culpable of hooliganism, an offence that severely undermines the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship the UFL endeavours to uphold.

“The Disciplinary Committee found Kyambogo University guilty of hooliganism during the Kyambogo vs Ndejje University game of 14th October 2023 and during the Kyambogo University vs Muni University game of 5th October 2023,” the statement added.

As a consequence of this ruling, Kyambogo University will be compelled to sit out not only the ongoing 2023-24 season but also the subsequent one, dealing a substantial blow to their aspirations in the tournament.

Kyambogo’s suspension sends a strong message to the university, emphasizing the imperative of maintaining order and decorum within the sporting arena.

In light of this development, Kyambogo University joins Bishop Stuart University in a regrettable expulsion from the tournament.

This twin suspension stands as a stark reminder to all participating institutions that the UFL places a premium on fostering an environment of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity.

The UFL Disciplinary Committee’s decision serves as a clarion call to all stakeholders, urging them to prioritize the values that lie at the heart of competitive sports while reinforcing the UFL’s commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for players and fans alike.
