Sam Ssimbwa appointed Uganda Cranes assistant coach

Uganda’s Football governing body, FUFA has duly accepted the appointment by new Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Joseph Put to have Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana as his assistant in the various key appointments aimed at establishing a formidable technical staff for the national team.

Put was Thursday unveiled as the new Head Coach of Uganda in a brief ceremony which took place at the FUFA Complex. The Belgian signed a two-year deal, signalling a long-term vision for the national team.

According to FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein, Sam Ssimbwa, a highly regarded CAF License A certified coach will take over his new deputizing role with immediate effect.

“FUFA has duly accepted the appointment of Sam Ssimbwa by Uganda Cranes Head Coach and he will start serving in his new role with immediate effect,” Hussein stated on Thursday afternoon.

The decision to appoint Ssimbwa as Put’s assistant underlines the commitment of the football association to bolster the coaching staff with experienced and qualified individuals.

Alongside Ssimbwa, several other key figures have been enlisted to form the backbone of the technical team.

These include Sven De Wilde as Performance Manager, Mathieu Denis as Physical Fitness Coach, Gery Osste as Goalkeeping Coach, Martin Michiel as Physiotherapist, and Jelle Sevenhant as Video Analyst.

Put’s new technical team is set to hit the ground running, with their tenure commencing just in time for two crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches.

Uganda will face off against Guinea on 17th November 2023, followed by a showdown against Somalia on 21st November 2023.

These matches mark the first test for Coach Put and his rejuvenated coaching staff as they embark on the journey towards World Cup qualification.

The anticipation among Ugandan football enthusiasts is palpable, as they await the debut of this dynamic coaching ensemble on the international stage.
