Kampala, (UG): Police in Kampala are actively investigating an incident of armed robbery on ForteBet, a betting company in Kampala in which unspecified sums of money and gadgets including phones were stolen by the armed thugs.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the incident describing that the incident took place on November 5th, 2023, involving four-yet-to-be-identified armed men who entered a ForteBet betting establishment in Lubya Parish, Lubaga Division.
“At approximately 1:30 am, “these assailants robbed the premises, making away with a substantial sum of money, approximately 3 million Ugandan Shillings, and eight mobile phones,” Mr Owoyesigyire stated.
At the time of the robbery, Owoyesigyire says the individuals present at the establishment were identified as Bumba Mathias, Mulungi Hakram, and Sumaya Abduwahabu, who all serve as cashiers.
“No manager was present during the incident,” he added, before noting that the betting place in question operates as a hub for betting activities.
The KMP Deputy spox said in the aftermath of the incident, police have issued a warning to betting companies that operate 24/7, emphasizing the need to avoid large crowds, particularly during the late hours.
“There is a CCTV camera at the scene, we shall use that to figure out how the thugs moved,” Owoyesigyire said.
“We shall be doing our subsequent operations around betting companies to check out the vice of boda boda riders sleeping at the betting centres,“ he asserted.
