FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Coach Ayub names squad for Senegal tie

Kampala, (UG): The Head Coach of the Uganda U20 Women’s National Team (the Queen Cranes), Mr Ayub Khalifah Kiyingi has unveiled the formidable squad set to take on Senegal in the upcoming FIFA U20 Women World Cup Qualifiers.

The final list comprising 20 talented players departed from Entebbe International Airport on Thursday at 2:45 am, courtesy of Ethiopian Airways.

The team will make a brief stopover in Addis Ababa before reaching Senegal, where the highly anticipated clash is scheduled to take place. Senegal will host the first leg of the encounter in Dakar on November 11, 2023. The return leg is slated for November 18, 2023, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The squad, carefully curated by the head coach, encompasses a balanced roster of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.

The goalkeeping duties will be entrusted to the capable trio of Sharon Kaidu, Lillian Nakilya, and Nuruh Babirye Nankyazi.

The defensive lineup will be fortified by the likes of Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi, Harima Kanyago, Sharifah Nakimera, Rebecca Nandhego, Patricia Hasifah Namboozo, and Desire Katisi Natooro.

The midfield will be commanded by the dynamic presence of Kevin Nakacwa, Hadijah Nandago, Hairat Babirye, Krusum Namutebi, Agnes Nabukenya, Dorcus Kisakye, and Immaculate Odalu.

Upfront, the team will look to Margaret Kunihira, Catherine Nagadya, Shamusa Najjuma, and Kamiyati Naigaga to lead the charge in finding the back of the net.

In addition to the talented squad, a dedicated support staff will accompany the team on their journey. This includes Leader of Delegation Agnes Mugena, National Teams Officer Paul Mukatabala Nantulya, Goalkeeping Coach Mubarak Kiberu, Fitness Coach Arthur Kyesimira, Team Doctor Stella Nankumba, Team Physiotherapist Ronald Mutebi, Team Coordinator Joan Namusisi, Equipment Manager Prossy Nalwadda, and Team Media Officer Judith Tuhirirwe.

The delegation is further bolstered by FUFA Delegates Tom Peter Atyang and Scovia Angeyango, along with FUFA TV Producer Isaiah Misanvu.

As the team sets out on this pivotal mission, the nation stands united in support, eagerly anticipating a resounding performance from Uganda’s U20 Women’s National Team.
