CECAFA U15: Uganda see off Tanzania to set up championship final with Zanzibar

Buikwe, (UG): The National U15 Football Team, Uganda Rhinos moved a step closer to defending the CECAFA U15 Boys title after defeating Tanzania 2-1 to set up a tie and final fixture of the tournament with Zanzibar.

Abubakali Walusimbi and Samuel Muburu showcased their skills, scoring in the 12th and 44th minute, respectively, while Tanzania’s Feisal Juma managed to pull one back in the 83rd minute.

Meanwhile, in a tense battle between Zanzibar and South Sudan, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, eventually decided by a penalty shootout.

Zanzibar emerged victorious with a 4-2 score in penalties. Notably, South Sudan missed crucial penalties, with Lazarus Peter George Laku and Victor Elizaya failing to convert, ultimately eliminating them from contention for the final.

Uganda Rhinos’ coach Hamuza Lutalo said he was happy that they have so far won all their four matches en route to the final. ” We need to keep focused because a final is very different and there is a lot of tension, ” added Lutalo.

Monday’s semi-final victory was Uganda’s fourth straight win in the competition after they also saw off Djibouti, South Sudan and Ethiopia in the group stage.

Uganda last lifted the U-15 title when the Championship was last held in Asmara, Eritrea in 2019 and will now face Zanzibar in a bid to defend their crown in the final which will be played on Thursday, November 16th at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
