Man stabs girlfriend to death over solar panel

Serere, (UG): The Territorial Police in East Kyoga Region and Serere Central Police Station are holding a 38-year-old man over the alleged murder by stabbing of his woman friend whom he accused of confiscating his solar panel following a misunderstanding.

Osapa Moses, 38, a resident of Pingire landing site in Serere District, eastern Uganda is accused of stabbing Asekenye Stella, alias Hellen, aged 22 with a knife in an incident that happened last Tuesday, November 7th, 2023 at around 8 am.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the lovers had spent three months together, but on the fateful day (November 07th), while at Karamajong village, the suspect (Osapa) confiscated his lover’s clothes, which prompted her to pick his solar panel in retaliation.

Despite the matter being resolved by the LC1, a few moments later, the suspect followed his girlfriend to her room and stabbed her with a knife.

The report was confirmed by Uganda Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga during a Monday press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru.

Mr Enanga said that the victim (Asekenye) was rushed to Serere Health Centre IV following the fight but she unfortunately died four days later.

The suspect who had first escaped after the incident was arrested from Amakio village and is currently in custody pending court appearance where he will be charged with murder.

In a related development, the territorial Police in Soroti District, is actively searching for a group of chapati sellers, from Asinge cell, Madera ward in Soroti East division, for the alleged torture and murder of Opio Musa, on allegations of theft of a table, belonging to Busulwa.

It is alleged the four suspects who include Busulwa, Otim, Oparo, Rafael and others on the 10th of November, 2023, arrested the victim, led him to a eucalyptus forest, between Compswahili and Madera, and beat him seriously, before dragging him back to the trading centre, where he died from.

Police responded and rushed him to hospital where he died from.
