Bobi Wine on why he was a ‘no show’ at Kyabazinga’s royal wedding

Kampala, (UG): The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has revealed a strange reason as to why he did not appear anywhere as the Kyabazinga of Busoga wedded Queen Mutesi Jovia in a colorful ceremony over the weekend.

Bobi whose supporters eagerly awaited his appearance at the Royal Wedding has revealed that his invitation to Bugembe Cathedral where the function was held got cancelled just hours over what he termed as unclear reasons.

The former presidential candidate says he had jetted into the country from abroad specifically to attend the historic wedding, only to be told by organizers that he couldn’t go because First Son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was to be there, among other high-profile guests and officials from the ruling government.

“…I was in fact out of the country, but I made sure to be back home on November 17 at night to be able to attend the wedding, but at the very last minute I was informed that Mr Museveni and his son and their security had put an order that I cannot be at that function,” Bobi Wine said on Sunday during the commemoration of the deadly Kampala Riots of November 2020, where over 50 people were shot dead by security forces on the city streets.

He added; “I missed it so bad, I had bought a brand new suit, but the next time I go to Busoga I will put on.”

“I want to congratulate the Kyabazinga and Mama on that auspicious occasion. We congratulate the people of Busoga and wish the King and Queen a happy and fruitful marriage,” Bobi said as he congratulated the Busoga royals and the locals on the historic wedding.

And yes, it was indeed true as the First Son who is also the Senior President Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba attended the wedding reception together with his wife Charlotte.

The Busoga royal wedding, the first of its kind since 1954 was held at Christ Cathedral in Bugembe and the reception at the newly refurbished Igenge Palace.

Addressing his subjects at the wedding reception, the Kyabazinga William Nadiope Gabula IV said President Museveni who gifted him 20 cows as a customary gift was the single biggest contributor to the wedding. First Son Muhoozi also gifted him 10 cows, making a combined total of 30 cows from the first family.
