Kampala, (UG): The Uganda U18 Boys National Team has safely arrived in Kakamega, Kenya ahead of the CECAFA U18 Boys Championship that starts on Saturday, 25th November in the neighbouring country.
The team is ready to showcase their talent and determination on the regional stage and has embarked on their final preparations, led by head coach Morley Byekwaso, emphasizing the importance of both physical and mental conditioning.
The squad, consisting of 23 talented players, has undergone rigorous training sessions to ensure a well-balanced and formidable team.
In a recent friendly match against BUL FC on Wednesday morning, the team demonstrated their prowess, securing a thrilling 2-1 victory Katongole Frank emerged as the star of the day, scoring both goals.
This triumph follows earlier test games against Gaddafi FC, where the team faced a 3-1 defeat and a 2-all draw, but Coach Byekwaso expressed confidence in his squad shortly before travelling on Wednesday.
“The final squad is made up of 23 talented and hardworking players who will represent the country very well,” Bwekwaso stated.
Uganda faces tough competition in Group B, which is dubbed the Group of Death, featuring East Africa’s powerhouses Zanzibar, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
The final squad list of the U18 boys includes goalkeepers Magada Abdu, Etuta Bieven Siraje, and Nsubuga Chris Ronald, seven defenders, eight midfielders, and five forwards, all meticulously selected to tackle the challenges ahead.
As the nation eagerly anticipates the tournament, Uganda is scheduled to play its first group match against Tanzania on Sunday, November 26th, at 3:00 pm, at Kakamega Stadium.
The coaching staff remains optimistic about the team’s ability to compete at the highest level and bring glory to the nation in this prestigious championship.
