Moses Mulimira, a Ugandan diaspora and Mental Health clinician based in the UK has won the National Award for Excellence at the Mast The Magazine (MTM) Awards 2023 held at Delta Hotels by Marriott, Bristol City Centre, UK.
Mulimira through the Uganda-UK Health Alliance which he leads in the UK collaborates with various global health organisations and diaspora communities to alleviate health disparities and poverty, by creating global health-sharing platforms for resource-limited countries.
A statement sent by UK Health Alliance noted that Mulimira’s, “dedication and contributions toward strengthening Uganda’s health system are truly inspiring. Besides, the diverse world-class award ceremony showcased immense interest from diverse communities. It also served as a unique platform for networking, idea exchange, and celebration.”
Attendees got to interact with some of the finest individuals from the region, the nation, and even across international waters, all in one place.
MTM Awards were founded in 2012 to honour the South Asian communities in the South West of England. Mast The Magazine, a community-based Black Asian and Ethnic publication, noted the lack of involvement of Asian businesses and community groups in local award incentives in Bristol.
Over the past 10 years, MTM Awards have proudly recognized 193 incredible award winners and bestowed 91 Special Recognition honors. With 5450 warm welcomes and 8350 remarkable nominees.
This event has truly become a significant gathering, fostering connections and recognition among talented individuals and thriving in UK Diaspora communities.
The Uganda-UK Health Alliance is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Uganda, and the National Health Service (NHS), Health Education England which serves as an umbrella organization for UK institutions and organizations undertaking healthcare capacity-building activity in Uganda.
Through the Uganda-UK Health Alliance, PONT, a UK-registered charity, has been working in partnership with Mbale Regional Referral Hospital (RRH) since 2007.
This long-term health partnership has resulted in lasting change in many areas of the healthcare system in eastern Uganda and links into wider projects in the communities surrounding the hospital.
Supported by an emergency COVID grant from the Government of Wales through their Wales for Africa programme, PONT is running a project to strengthen the health system around access to oxygen for patients at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
This multi-faceted project has seen infrastructure development, provision of surge capacity for both consumables and human resources and a strong monitoring and evaluation component.
