Zombo, (UG): The Chairperson of Zombo District Forum for People Living with HIV AIDS, Mr Collins Canudwoga has tasked the leadership of Akaa subcounty to explain the circumstances under which the commemoration of World AIDS Day was organised last Sunday, December 3rd in their jurisdiction without notifying them (forum).
Despite the efforts of having exonerated the district for the inability to support the belated celebration of World AIDS Day, the Forum feels disadvantaged and disgruntled by the double standards at play amidst allegations of fund committed by the Infectious Disease Institute for the belated district celebration.
Mr Collins Canudwoga told DailyExpress how they were not co-opted to participate in the activity which leaves them out of HIV/AIDs related activities in the district.
“We were not informed we were not even made aware of the activity and yet the leaders of the people living with the virus are available that should be the last time for them because we’re are recognized at the national level,” Mr Canudwoga said furiously.
Relatedly, Mr Mark Bramali, Zombo District Health Officer who was contacted by this publication for comment explained why the forum was not notified stating it was a candle-lighting event for beneficiaries of Compassion a church-affiliated CBO.
“They were the ones who organized a candle lighting in support of their children who are living positively,it was not Zombo district that organised belated World AIDS Day commemoration,” Mr Bramali remarked passionately.
The forum was also lectured on how they don’t need to be notified about any activities related to HIV AIDS in the district.
By the time of publishing this story efforts to get comments from the officers of Compassion and Infections Disease Institute was futile.
In the recent statistics of HIV prevalence rates by westnile districts released by Uganda Aids Commission, Zombo district is tagged at 3.5 percent second to Arua city at 4.4 percent.
