Uganda triumphs as St. Mary’s Kitende, Kawempe Muslim clinch CECAFA zone titles

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, St. Mary’s Boarding SS Kitende emerged victorious in the boys’ category, securing their place in the upcoming CAF African Schools Football Championship.

The Ugandan boys clinched the CECAFA Zone title in Nairobi, Kenya, after a nail-biting match against Tanzania that ended 1-1 in regular time, ultimately triumphing 4-2 on penalties.

Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim SS showcased their prowess in the girls’ category, sealing their spot in the continental championship.

The girls from Uganda demonstrated resilience and teamwork, overcoming Kenya 2-1 in a fiercely contested final at the Kasarani Stadium.

Lindey Weey Atieno provided Kenya with an early lead, but Shadia Nabirye and Shaluwah Butini orchestrated a comeback securing the victory for Uganda.

This double triumph signifies a remarkable achievement for Ugandan football on the regional stage.

As they gear up for the African Schools Football Championship, both St. Mary’s Boarding SS Kitende and Kawempe Muslim SS have their eyes on the enticing prize money – USD 100,000 for the Zonal Winners, USD 75,000 for Zonal Runners-up, and USD 50,000 for the 3rd Position.
