Kigali, (RW): The Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa has vowed to advocate for increased support to Parliament golf teams after Uganda’s golf team recorded a resounding victory at the East Africa Community Games 2023 in Kigali.
The triumph was marked by a series of awards at the Kigali Golf Club, where Hon Caroline Kamusiime clinched the longest drive in the ladies category on Day One.
Aringa South MP, Hon Alion Odria, mirrored the success, securing the award for the longest drive among men on the tournament’s opening day.
Hon Janepher Mbabazi showcased precision, earning the nearest-to-pin accolade in the ladies category.
Day Two brought further glory as Hon Sylvia Nayebale claimed the title for the longest drive among the ladies, and Hon Dickson Kateshumbwa excelled for men in the same category.
The crowning achievement went to Hon Sylvia Nayebale, who was declared the overall winner of the East African Community Games 2023 golf event in Kigali.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, expressing gratitude for special recognition from Kigali Golf Club, emphasized the unity within the golfing community.
He pledged to urge the Bureau of Speakers to enhance support for Parliament golf teams, envisioning a future with expanded bilateral and multilateral golf tournaments.
In a heartfelt invitation, Tayebwa declared, “We are a family of golfers; for golfers, I am part of you. Anyone who wants to come to Uganda, you are welcome for a round of golf.”
Highlighting golf’s uniqueness, he stressed the need for bilateral and multilateral tournaments, further solidifying the commitment to fostering the sport’s growth in the region.
