Kenyan driver arrested for knocking boda-boda rider dead, injuring others in Mbale

Mbale, (UG): The Police at Mbale Northern City Division are holding a Kenyan national and driver of a Mercedes Benz Trailer for knocking dead a Boda rider and injuring other two people in Mbale City.

The driver identified as Abdrizak Omar Qure is currently detained at Nakaloke Police Station following his arrest for causing the accident incident that occurred on Monday night at Afia stage in Namunsi, Mbale Northern division along Mbale-Kumi road.

Police identified the deceased as Mafuko Latifu, a 22-year-old male adult and a resident of Ndega cell, Nkoma in Namanyonyi sub-county, Mbale Northern Division.

Other accident victims included Sambula Jalia, a female adult, 37, a CDO and resident of Bulambuli district and Tifu Wandwandi, 37, a resident of Namunsi village in Mbale.

Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, SP Rogers Taitika confirmed the incident, saying two vehicles (a Mercedes Benz and a Taxi) were involved and one motorcycle (a Bajaj boxer) which resulted in the loss of a life.

“The accident involved SSD 854T/SSD 991T Mercedes Benz Actros being driven by one Abdrizak Omar Qure Kenyan, UBB 241A Toyota Hiace (Taxi) white in color being driven by one Tifu Wandeadi, 37, a resident of Namunsi and UFZ 884E Bajaj boxer red in color being ridden by one Mafuko Latifu,22, resident of Ndega cell Nkoma in Namanyonyi sub-county in Mbale Northern Division who died on the spot.

According to police preliminary information, the Mercedes Benz driver who was coming from Kumi to Mbale was overspeeding and knocked a motorist who abruptly entered the road from a feeder road before knocking a stationary Taxi and injuring other road users.

“The rider emerged from a feeder road of Namabasa and Joined the road abruptly, then continued and knocked motor vehicle UBB 241A which was offloading passengers at AFIA stage along Kumi – Mbale road, and injured other Road users,” SP Taitika said in a Tuesday statement.

The vehicles involved in the accident were towed and parked at police, victims were rushed to Mbale referral hospital for first aid and the body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary by police as inquiries into the matter are at hand.
