Philanthropists launch campaign to clean up drainage systems in Mbarara City

Mbarara, (UG): A team of philanthropists in Mbarara City under their umbrella Philanthropy and Volunteerism in Education and Entrepreneurship (PAVE) have launched a campaign on general cleaning of Mbarara City South Division and cleaning of drainage trenches that connect to River Rwizi in the western region.

The cleaning campaign was launched on Wednesday, December 21, spearheaded by Prof. Bob Hopkins, the Founder and President of the Philanthropists body, Ambrose Ndyamuba the Executive Director, along with the organization members and the general public.

Among the activities carried out by the philanthropists included; picking littered rubbish including bottles, polythene bags, among others to ensure a clean and green environment of the city for its dwellers and traders. They also cleaned the drainage trenches along the roads to ensure that the drainage system remains intact and free flowing.

The group further proceeded to carry out other activities which included painting of Madarasat Hamza Primary School in Mbarara City as part of their CSR outreach campaign.

PAVE which is already included into school as part of the clubs aims to empower school going children become problem solvers and create self reliant and sustainable societies, an alignment that rhymes with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

They also planted trees in the city, aiming to create a green city revolution which in the end will help to restore the mother nature.

The day concluded with laying of the foundation stone by Prof Bob Hopkins at Nyakigongo Primary School in Rwamabondo Town Council in Ntungamo District.

Prof Hopkins speaking after the event commended the Government of Uganda and PAVE ED Mr Ndyamuba Ambrose for great achievements achieved so far for the short time he has been in the country and vowed to transverse all parts of the country and introduce PAVE to Ugandans.

The students who performed in PAVE campaign were awarded certificates of completion in cogniztion of their efforts towards creating a sustainable environment in their areas.
