Woman arrested buying Xmas gifts with shs1.6m counterfeit notes

The Police in Lira City are holding a 36-year-old woman at Lira Central Police Station arrested for being in possession of counterfeit notes on Saturday afternoon.

The woman suspect whose name the police did not reveal had in total an amount of Shs1,690,000, which she had gone with to shop for Christmas gifts for her beloved.

The development was confirmed by North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Jimmy Okema in a Saturday police statement.

“It’s alleged that the suspect moved in about four shops in Amach Trading Centre while buying items with fake currencies on December 22, 2023. She was arrested and found in possession of counterfeit notes worth Shs1,690,000,” Mr Okema said.

He added; “the suspect is being detained as carry out investigations to uproot the gang members she must have been working with.”

Police reminded members of the general public to continue being vigilant and report quickly to the police for arrest, investigation and prosecution (of any person suspected of being involved in criminality).
