Police probe death of Makindye couple in suspected homicide act

Kampala, (UG): Police in Kampala have opened up investigations into a case of suspected homicide act after a young couple died in a shocking incident Makindye Division, a Kampala suburb on Wednesday morning.

The deceased identified as Senkungu Arnold, 24, and Atwine Shina, 21, are said to have tragically lost their lives at Senkungu’s residence in Mosque Zone, Kabalagala with their bodies discovered dead by their neighbour, Sserunjoji Frank on the morning of December 27, 2023.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Mr Luke Owoyesigyire says “upon discovering fresh blood and locked doors, the neighbours forced entry to find Senkungu Arnold alive but succumbing to injuries at Kibuli Hospital.”

“Tragically, Atwine was found lifeless with a deep neck wound,” he added.

Mr Owoyesigyire explains that a team from the Homicide Unit of police responded swiftly and uncovered a scene of struggle. A new knife with fresh blood and witness statements were pivotal to the investigation.

Further information obtained indicates Senkungu was retrieved from the scene with multiple injuries, an indication that the couple, exhibited signs of a troubled marriage.

It is further alleged that Atwine had confided in a friend about mistreatment, purchasing a new knife possibly indicating premeditation.

Owoyesigyire says the Motive of the murder is still under investigation and more details will be availed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been delivered at City Mortuary pending post-mortem as police urge anyone with information about the incident and the couple to aid in the pursuit of justice.
