Police in Kampala are investigating a distressing incident after detectives retrieved the body of an unidentified woman cut into pieces and packed in polythene bags from a wetland at Namere Zone, Kanyanya in Kawempe, a Kampala City suburb.
SSP Patrick Onyango, the Police Spokesperson in the Kampala Metropolitan area confirmed the incident on Wednesday morning saying the body parts were found abandoned on Boxing Day by yet-to-be-identified persons at the scene of crime.
“We are trying to identify the victim and also establish the suspected killers,” he said, adding that “The body parts have been taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a post-mortem. Other teams are on the ground to find the killers.”
Mr Onyango, who described the crime scene as horrific and gruesome, said they will likely find the killers if they identified the deceased since the suspects left a lot of evidence at the crime scene.
“…the head of an unknown person was packed together with arms in a blue polythene bag. The legs were also packed in a blue polythene bag. The torso and head were packed in a matted woven polypropylene bag,” he said.
According to police the killers could have taken their time and attempted to hide any traces since they used gloves, which they abandoned at the crime scene.
“Detectives also found a used pillow and a towel at the scene, which the forensic experts are examining for evidence,” Mr Onyango stated, before asking any person whose female relative is missing to visit the mortuary.
