LIST: Here are the best 10 opinionists in Uganda in 2023

As 2023 comes to an end, we compile for you a list of the best 10 writers of articles in the country in the year 2023. This list consists of noted Ugandan writers, born or raised in Uganda, whether living there or overseas and writing the best opinions for readers.

1. Mr. Faruk Kirunda.

The flamboyant and magnificent writer who serves as the deputy Press Presidential Secretary to the longest-serving president has emerged as the number one article writer. He is consistent and accurate. He mainly writes about political and economic issues.

Kirunda’s work is well-researched and spot-on, rich in experience. No wonder he is one of the blue-eyed boys of President Museveni.

2. Prof. Charles Oweyegha Afunadula.

A former Makerere University lecturer is one of the most social media users and consistent writers on political, social, economic and cultural issues. He exhibits a wide range of knowledge in his write-ups which are well researched. His articles are very resourceful and rich in history. He takes the second spot of article writers in 2023. 

3. Mr. Ofwono Opondo.

The executive director of the Uganda Media Center, no doubt takes the third spot and his knowledge about writing is self-explanatory. He majorly writes about political issues nationally and internationally. 

4. Mr. George Mubiru.

Little did the world know about him. He rose to the scene in February 2023 and has taken the whole country by storm. A young graduate teacher, who uses rich literally devices and excellent use of the English language has emerged as one of the most prolific writers exhibiting rich knowledge and research.

Additionally, His courage to express himself as an NRM diehard can’t be underestimated. His write-ups have changed and positively impacted many people in the country who seemed taken up by the storm of people power. He has the intellectual ability to handle political themes of the time. He takes the fourth spot.

5. Mr. Edrine Benessa.

He is a deputy RDC. He is one of the few RDCs who interests himself in the social and political affairs of the country. He is known for writing opinions in defense of the ruling government, as well as scoffing at the opposition in counteraction to their writings.

6. Adam Kamulegeya.

Kamulegeya is one of the guest and opinion writers whose work is well-researched. He handles a wide range of issues from political social and economic. He takes the sixth spot.

7. Mr. Sam Evidence Orikunkunda.

He is also among the very few President Museveni’s intelligent RDCs who use writings to popularize government programs. He tackles mostly political themes.

8. Hudu Hussein:

The Masaka City Resident City Commissioner (RCC) is notably considered one of the best opinion writers in the country, also famously known for dancing to the tune of the ruling government. His write-ups often rhyme in line with the NRM party and defend its programmes.

9. Ben Ssebuguzi:

Ssebuguzi, the Head of Research and Coordinator at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has also made a name for writing relevant articles this year, 2023. From economic to political aspects, he has definitely made himself into our list of the best writers in 2023.

10. Denis Juuko:

Juuko is one of the few opinionists in the country who specialises majorly in the economic affairs of the country. Throughout the year, he has written relevant pieces which has garnered him readership and following online.
