Reining Champions Vipers SC will look to newly appointed coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as they gear up to face NEC FC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, at 7pm this evening.

The much-anticipated duel marks Mbabazi’s inaugural StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) match at the renowned ‘Home of Champions.’

Amidst the global celebration of the New Year, the Venoms unveiled Mbabazi as their head coach, instilling hope for a positive beginning to 2024.

However, the team is grappling with a challenging spell, entering the NEC FC clash with a three-game winless streak. A 1-1 draw with Maroons FC preceded consecutive losses of 3-2 to BUL FC and 2-0 to Express FC.

Assistant coach Richard Wasswa acknowledged the need for improvement saing; “We have to admit that our form of late needs improving, and a good win tomorrow is the medicine we all need right now.”

The match against NEC offers an opportune moment for a turnaround, with Mbabazi at the helm. The team, currently occupying the fifth position with 24 points, aspires to climb into the top three spots in the league standings.

NEC FC, under the guidance of coach Hussein Mbalangu, finds themselves in a parallel struggle, having endured three winless outings, including two draws and one defeat.

Wasswa expresses confidence in the players’ ability to reverse the trend.

“It’s important to bounce back after a tough few weeks. We have a lot of trust and belief in our players to turn this spell around. They have trained well with the new coach, and we want to change our form tomorrow.” He added.

As NEC occupies the sixth spot with 21 points from 13 matches, both teams, relatively new to topflight league history, set the stage for an unpredictable clash in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The match not only signifies a battle for points but also serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of both squads as they strive to carve their names in the league’s narrative.
