Kampala, (UG): The Police in Kampala Metropolitan is actively on a hunt for Warugo Issa, a security guard attached to Absolute Guard Services who shot dead one Andrew Tumwebaze, 24, over Shs 2, 000.
Mr Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson, confirmed the report in a Monday police statement saying the incident arose escalating into a fatal shooting after the guard; Warugo persistently demanded his shs2000 from Tumwebaze.
According to Mr Owoyesigyire, an SAR with five rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene in the aftermath of the shooting to aid with the ongoing investigation while the deceased’s body was delivered to the city mortuary in Mulago for postmortem and autopsy report.
He [Owoyesigyire] decried the ever-increasing incidents of gun violence involving security personnel and called for engagement with security agencies to find a solution as police hunt for the runaway suspect.
“Our priority now is to locate the suspect and bring him to face the legal consequences of his actions. We are troubled by the recurring incidents involving security personnel resorting to lethal measures during disagreements. Efforts are underway to engage with security companies to ensure proper guidelines for conflict resolution when their employees are armed,” Owoyesigyire stated.
Subsequently, police has urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Warugo to come forward and assist in ensuring that justice is served for the untimely death of the late Tumwebaze.
