Man, 30, arrested for defiling 10-year-girl in Jinja

The suspect, Bulo alais Scopus, accused of allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.

Jinja, (UG): The Police in Kakira Division in Jinja District Tuesday arrested and detained a man in his early 30s for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl in a distressing incident that occurred on Monday, January 8, 2024, at around 3 pm.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi identified the suspect as Bulo alias Scopus, who has been ferrying water in people’s homes in Wairaka Trading Centre and the surrounding areas.

“Bulo sometimes calls himself Scopus, ferries water in people’s homes in Wairaka Trading Centre. We received the unfortunate news and responded and apprehended the suspect before charging him with aggravated defilement case at Kakira CPS where is being detained,” Mubi said.

The victim according to police, stays with her grandmother and she was in the company of other children playing at home when the suspected defiler dragged her to a nearby kiosk behind the main house and defiled her.

Mubi said police examined the victim medically and confirmed she had been subjected to defilement while the suspect was yet to be medically examined to ascertain his mental health.

The regional police spokesperson, however, expressed worry over the increasing cases of defilement by people who would serve as examples in the society.

“Most of the time 99.9% of such suspects are mentally okay but it’s very hurting to see someone who would be serving exemplary and responsibly in Wairaka trading centre again turning against children,” Mubi sorrowfully said.

DailyExpress has established that by the time of committing the crime, the grandmother was not at home, prompting the police authorities to urge the public to be good keepers of children in their respective communities other than devouring them.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing and police have assured the public that the suspect will be taken to court and answer charges of among others aggravated defilement which were preferred against him.
