She Cranes triumph with victory over Wales in Netball test series

Uganda’s national netball team, She Cranes Saturday showcased resilience and determination as they secured a triumphant victory against Wales, winning the Test Series with a 59-48 score at the House of Sports.

The She Cranes faced a series of challenges, starting with a 45-57 loss in the opening match but making a remarkable comeback in the 2nd and 3rd games with convincing victories of 64-40 and 59-48, respectively, ultimately claiming the series 2-1.

In a nail-biting encounter, the She Cranes found themselves trailing early in the third quarter against a spirited Wales team. However, they rallied to take a commanding 44-38 lead going into the final period, ultimately sealing their success.

Wales, determined to level the playing field, made strategic changes, introducing debutant Ellen Morgan in the second quarter. Despite their intensified efforts, Wales finished the first half just a point behind, with player-of-the-match Georgia Rowe delivering a standout performance.

The physicality of the third Test mirrored that of the first, showcasing the tenacity of both teams. Wales displayed significant improvement on both ends of the court, although their inability to capitalize on turnovers in the final third proved costly.

In a decisive final quarter, the She Cranes maintained their momentum, securing a well-deserved victory and marking Cholhok Mary Nuba as the Carrie Elspeth Player of the Series.

The opening match marked Wales’ first win over the She Cranes since 2015, contrasting with Uganda’s success against the Feathers at the previous year’s World Cup, where they finished fifth, while Wales secured the ninth spot.

As they look ahead, Uganda, with their eyes set on further achievements, will face formidable opponents in Australia, England, and New Zealand in the upcoming Nations Cup.

The She Cranes will then embark on the challenging Vitality Netball Nations Cup in England, ready to face new tests and continue their journey of excellence.
