Kigezi Teens CEO meets former PM Rugunda, discuss youth-related matters

Kampala, (UG): On Friday, January 12, 2024, Mr Eddie Nahwera, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kigezi Teens Magazine paid a courtesy visit to Rt. Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the former Prime Minister of Uganda and currently the Presidential Envoy on Special Duties.

The meeting which took place at Rugunda’s office in Kampala centered around youth-related matters in the southwestern Kigezi region and specifically to thank Nahwera for the good job he is doing for his fellow teens in the region. 

Nahwera in his interaction with Dr Rugunda told him how the Kigezi Teens Magazine project is empowering the youth and transforming the lives of the young generation in Kigezi. He narrated how he started the magazine initiative as a young teen at 19 years old and how the initiative has fully changed and empowered the lives of all youth in Kigezi. 

Secondly, he [Nahwera] further told the ex-premier about the different activities they are doing which include magazine publications, workshops, skills training, charity works, talent development among the teens, school debates, health campaigns, teen conferences, and festivals among others. 

Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, impressed by Nahwera’s amazing work lauded him and his team for the great work they are doing saying in verbatim; “Youth empowerment is a strong weapon that we all need to engage in for the development of our country, I look for wad to even closer cooperation between us because through doing this, your not doing it alone but paving a way for the entire generation.”

“We encourage you to continue and keep up the good work. We shall fully support and ensure that you achieve most of your set goals and objectives as the youth.”

Dr Rugunda further advised Nahwera to continue trying engagements with the youth ministry, and different Governmental and non-governmental organizations that support and deal with the youth and keep focused on making Kigezi and the entire nation a better place.

On request, Nahwera asked Dr Rugunda to preside over and officiate their forthcoming edition this year which was fully approved and granted. 

“I’m glad to convey special greetings from our own Mukiga; Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, I’m glad to say that he loves youth empowerment and promised full support in all our youth activities,” Nahwera told this publication after the Friday meeting.

Nahwera conveyed Rugunda’s message advising all the youth to engage in empowerment programs, work hard and serve fully in their different capacities for the betterment of our country at large.

“We are beyond lucky to have such influential government figures appreciate our work as Kigezi youth. Meaningfully, engaging young people is the first step to the realization of our rights and the need to change our society” he said.
