Assailant hacks four family members in Kamwenge, lynched by mob

Kamwenge, (UG): The Police in Kamwenge District have opened a murder case inquiry to investigate how four members of the same family were brutally killed by the suspect before he eventually got lynched by the enraged residents.

The incident according to police happened at around 10 pm on Monday at Rwenchwera village, Kinyonza ward in Nkoma Katalyeba Town Council when the suspected raided and killed Gladys Turyahebwa, 42, the mother and her children, Anita Nuwamanya, 18, Susan Ainemani, 16, and Onesta Atusasire, 9 in a gruesome incident.

Mr Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West region police spokesperson confirmed the unfortunate incident and said three of the four members attacked died on the spot, while the fourth one (Ainemani) succumbed to injuries at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital this morning.

Mr Twesige identified the assailant as Sam Asiimwe, 33, a resident of the same village and a neighbour to the deceased was subsequently lynched by enraged residents.

According to preliminary police findings, at the time of the incident, it is alleged that Mr Denis Turyabe, the head of the family was away in the nearby trading centre with the cause of the shocking incident yet to be determined by investigating authorities.

This publication has learnt from the village chairperson Mr Sam Bahati that only one child (1-year-old), survived because he wasn’t inside the house at the time of the attack.

“After committing the crime, the suspect locked himself inside the same house. But an alarm had already been made which prompted the neighbours to come and find him, thus lynching him. We have no clue what his motive was,” Mr Bahati stated.

Mr Twesigye said; “A police team led by Asp Akol is already at the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and the motive of the killer.”
