Senegal’s Camara shines on AFCON debut with brace in 3-0 over Gambia

Abidjan, (UG): In a remarkable display of talent and determination, 20-year-old Lamine Camara made history as the youngest player to score a brace at the AFCON since Ali Zitouni for Tunisia in 2000.

The Senegalese rising star showcased his prowess in a spectacular 3-0 victory over The Gambia, leaving football enthusiasts in awe.

Camara, who recently joined Metz FC in France, credited his senior teammates for his outstanding TotalEnergies Man of the Match performance in Senegal’s opening match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

His two goals and overall contribution earned him the individual accolade, which he humbly attributed to the collective effort of the team.

“I am happy with this recognition. This is the result of the hard work that we all did. Winning the first match remains a good thing,” expressed the young talent.

Pleased with his brace, Camara remained focused on the upcoming matches, acknowledging the influence of senior players like Sadio Mane.

“I am pleased to participate in such a tournament with the first team and to be in the company of senior players such as Sadio Mane and others. These players are the ones who helped me stand out today,” he concluded.

Senegal’s national team coach, Aliou Cisse, spoke confidently about Camara’s debut performance, stating that it was the young player’s time to shine.

“Lamine Camara is a young player, and his time has come. He scored two goals against Gambia and gave a distinguished performance on the field. The young player must be trusted and developed.” He praised
