Four injured as truck driver loses control, swerves into pothole on Budaka road

Budaka (UG): Police in Budaka District are investigating a serious accident under TAR 13/2024 that happened on Saturday afternoon in Mugiti village on Kamonkoli Kabwangasi road involving an Isuzu white truck UAU 458J being driven by an unidentified person.

According to traffic police, it is alleged that on Saturday the 20th of January, Magoma Patrick a resident of Bukaduka village, Budaka District hired motor vehicle reg no. UAU 458J to transport mourners including him to Sironko District for the burial of a relative.

On their way, at Mugiti village, along Kamonkoli Kabwangasi road, the driver who is not yet identified upon seeing a boda boda Rider carrying a bed in the opposite direction and began to fidget around.

“The bodaboda rider stopped to give him way to drive, however, as he was driving, he saw a pothole and recklessly swerved to the very side of the pothole. The vehicle then fell on the passenger’s side injuring four of the passengers,” Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson SP Semewo Samuel said confirming the report.

Mr Semewo identified the four injured passengers as Magoma Patrick, 50, Scovia Nabwire, 28, Takali Jane, 50, and Okoche George, 41.

He added that “IP Okiria James and the team responded to the scene, and a Motor vehicle was traced, impounded and currently parked at Budaka Police station pending Inspector Of Vehicles Inspection.

Meanwhile, the injured victims who were rushed to TERZ MEDICAL CLINIC in Kamonkoli were approached by police detectives, and statements recorded from two victims (Scovia Nabwire and Magoma Patrick) who could afford to talk”

SP Semewo adds that community policing was done to discourage them from using the same means next time and about the procedures when handling an accident matter.
