In the headlines of Thursday’s daily transfer gossip column, Premier League champions Manchester City are back in the transfer market after securing the signing of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

The 18-year-old Argentine midfielder has inked a deal until June 2028, with plans to join the Etihad Stadium in January next year after completing his tenure with River Plate.

Meanwhile, a fierce battle is brewing between Liverpool and Manchester City for the signature of German midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The 28-year-old Bayern Munich maestro is now a hot commodity in the transfer market.

In a setback for Manchester United, French forward Anthony Martial is set to be sidelined for 10 weeks following groin surgery. Despite this blow, United doesn’t foresee signing a replacement and is focused on recouping £100m through player sales, starting with 22-year-old English forward *Mason Greenwood, currently on loan at Getafe.

Hakon Valdimarsson, the 22-year-old Icelandic goalkeeper, is on the move from Swedish club Elfsborg to Brentford, with a £2.6m fee agreed upon.

Serie A outfit Genoa has expressed interest in acquiring the services of Everton’s 26-year-old English defender, Ben Godfrey.

Everton are also looking to offload 22-year-old midfielder Amadou Onana, with Newcastle eyeing the player for a substantial £60m fee.

Meanwhile, Luton Town is eyeing a move for Coventry City’s 25-year-old English midfielder, Ben Sheaf, while Fulham has withdrawn from negotiations with Krasnodar for Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba, 30, citing concerns about dealing with a Russian club.

Bayern Munich has abandoned its pursuit of 33-year-old Newcastleband England right-back *Kieran Trippier.

In North London, Arsenal is exploring a deal for 20-year-old Paris St-Germain and Netherlands attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, currently on loan with RB Leipzig. This move could serve as a backup to a potential transfer for Wolves’ Portuguese forward Pedro Neto, 23.

Newcastle United’s Slovakian goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, 35, is contemplating his future at the club this summer.

Lastly, Coventry City’s English attacking midfielder, Callum O’Hare, 25, is catching the attention of Southampton, Burnley and Leicester City, as he approaches the end of his contract this summer.
