Man, 51, commits suicide after hacking wife dead over extramarital affairs

Jinja, (UG): Fear and grief engulfed residents of Buleba Cell, Buwagi, in the Northern Division of Jinja City on Saturday when a husband killed his wife before commiting suicide in a sugarcane plantation near their home.

The deceased husband Fred Mitega has reportedly been accusing the wife Zaina Nakisige, 40, for having extramarital affairs with a self proclaimed born again Apostle James Muwanguzi of Buwagi, Jinja Northern division in Jinja city.

The body of Nakisige was discovered by locals early on Saturday before police launched a manhunt for the suspect and husband Fred Mitega, only to recover his body in a sugarcane plantation in the evening.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi in a Saturday evening statement said Mitega smashed the head of his wife with an axe on Saturday midnight.

“Fred Mitega allegedly smashed the head of his wife one Zaina Nakisige ,40, with an axe on January 27, 2024 at around midnight. One self proclaimed pastor commonly known as Mutume James Muwanguzi has been arrested to help police in investigations,” SP Mubi said.

Preliminary inquiries suggests that Mitega has been suspecting his wife Nakisige to have extramarital affair with Mutume James Muwanguzi to the extent of trying to forward issues of wife’s inequities to leaders for help. They couple left behind six children.

“…the suspect Mitega has been suspecting that his wife, with whom they have been living together and having six children has been having extramarital affair with Mutume James Muwanguzi of Buwagi. Mitega approached the area LC1 chairperson Mr. Nkeire Wilson requesting him to forward a letter to Nakapachu foundation for further management of his matter,” Mubi said.

DailyExpress has learnt from the community that the self proclaimed Apostle (Mutume) is not registered as a pastor with the Faith umbrella body in the city and that has been seducing people’s wives in the area to go at his church for everyday night prayers claiming that Jesus is coming back before 2026.

By press time, police had taken the bodies to Jinja main hospital mortuary as thorough prosecution guided investigations continues.

It should be noted that this is not the first self proclaimed servants of God are involving in anti Christ actions which are also unsuitable to the entire community.

In December 2021, the self proclaimed pastor Joseph Sserubiri and his wife Felista Namaganda of Deliverance and healing ministries Kakira, were arrested, charged with murder, convicted and sentenced after sacrificing Zabella Trinity Nakisuyi, 4, a child of their landlord with an intention to establish a powerful church.
