John Walusimbi takes over as Uganda Cricket Association boss

Kampala, (UG):- The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed Mr John Walusimbi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), succeeding Alan Mugume, who served in the role from July 2022 to date. 

Walusimbi’s tenure comes at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the historic participation of the Cricket Cranes at the T20 World Cup and the potential qualification journey of the Victoria Pearls at the Global Qualifiers in Dubai.

A dynamic leader with over 15 years of experience in the Logistics and Financial sectors, Walusimbi brings a wealth of expertise to the Uganda Cricket Association. 

His distinguished career includes key leadership roles at renowned logistics companies, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives, promoted operational excellence, and fostered a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Michael Nuwagaba, the Board Chairman of the Cricket Association expressed full confidence in Walusimbi, anticipating greater heights for the association under his stewardship.

“The board has full confidence in John and looks forward to greater heights under his stewardship at the Secretariat,” said Nuwagaba.

Walusimbi outlined his vision for the new role, stating, “I am humbled and honored to lead this esteemed organization into its next phase of growth. My vision is to increase international recognition and operational excellence from national to international fame.” 

He envisions collaboration with both the Men and Women teams, stakeholders, and the community to achieve this vision while promoting excellence, inclusivity, and sustainable progress.

With a solid educational background, including a Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University and an MBA in International Business from Coventry University, UK, Walusimbi is equipped with strategic vision, planning skills, resource mobilization expertise, and operational management proficiency. 

His commitment to driving progress, fostering innovation, and recognizing the next generation of high-performance individuals is evident in his track record.

Walusimbi’s prior roles at Blink Logistics (U) Limited and KCB Uganda Limited showcase his success in driving regional expansion strategies, optimizing logistics operations, and establishing robust operational systems.

In accepting the role, Walusimbi affirms; “I am excited to embark on this journey and grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

As he leads the Uganda Cricket Association, his dedication to elevating Ugandan cricket globally and building on past achievements through innovative programs and strategic partnerships is evident.
