While announcing the new organization, Igara East MP Micheal Mawanda (NRM) who sits on Muhoozi’s Central Committee revealed that they have transitioned from a pressure group named MK Movement into a civic organization going to fight corruption and environmental degradation.

“We hereby constitute ourselves into a civic organization and assume and adopt a new name and identity, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), which is the main aim of working towards receiving Ugandans in a spirit of God citizenship national pride, national service, protection of persons, combating corruption and wastage of public services and protection of the environment”-Mawanda revealed

As the country gears up for the 2026 general elections, the group continues to push Muhoozi to take over the reins from his father; Gen Kaguta Museveni and maintained the NRM colours (yellow) and changed from using Muhoozi’s face as the logo to a silhouette of a Lion.

Gen Muhoozi’s Political Ambitions

Launched in April 2022, to celebrate Gen Muhoozi’s birthday, the MK Movement has for long been used by the first son to traverse the country setting a precedent to become the next president of Uganda.

In 2023, Gen Muhoozi using his social media platform, declared that he would stand in 2026 to contest for the presidency and also made political statements, which reportedly irritated military leaders, local politicians and foreign governments.

The President would later stop his son, Gen Muhoozi, from commenting about military, political and foreign affairs matters in public. Mr Museveni described those close to his son in the MK Movement as self-seekers.

Bowing down to his father, Gen Muhoozi has since restrained himself from commenting on those issues and stopped attending many of the events in which his supporters lobby that he stands for the president in 2026.
