KASESE: Woman, 32, arrested for faking kidnap in Queen Elizabeth Park

Kasese, (UG):- The Joint Task Team of Police in Kasese working together with the UPDF, CMI, UWA, and ISO, are holding one Karungi Zainabu, a 32-year-old businesswoman over the allegations of self-kidnap to extort money from her relatives.

Karungi a resident of Railway Cell, in Kasese Municipality also faces charges of giving false information to police, according to Mr Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson.

Mr Enanga while addressing the media on Monday revealed that the suspect (Karungi) faked her kidnap on Friday, February 08, 2024, and called her mother, claiming that she and another female victim, had been arrested by eight armed men near Kikorongo within the Queen Elizabeth National Park, whereas not.

“She added, that they were demanding money in order to set her free, which was wrong for her, to misuse the image of the National Park,” Enanga stated.

“Using advanced surveillance methods, the task team located her, at her hiding place in a room at Margherita Street in Kasese Municipality and arrested her,” added the police spokesperson.

Karungi according to police appeared in court on Tuesday (today) to battle the charges of giving false information to police and self-kidnap.
